A new virus that targets Facebook and MySpace has resurfaced. The Koobface virus, originally discovered in August is a worm responsible for sending maliciuous code to Facebook users in the form of a message that announces “You look funny in this video.
Once you click on the link, a message appears that says an update of Flash is needed before the video can be displayed and you are prompted to open a file called flash_player.exe. If you approve the download Koobface attempts to download a program called tinyproxy.exe. Once tinyproxy.exe is installed, you are now open to more malicious applications that can be installed at a later time.

Unfortunately, users are very trusting of messages left by ‘friends’ on social networking sites. So the likelihood of a user clicking on a link like the one in the image below is very high.
Here is what Facebook says you can do to remove the virus if infected:
Also, here are some things you can do to protect yourself against getting a virus when
using social media sites:
(1) Be proactive. Don’t wait until you get a virus to do something about it.
Do your preventive maintenance now
(2) Ensure that your computer is running virus protection software and the
definitions are current.
(3) Be wary of email and attachments that you do not recognize
